This image was taken in October and the play of street lights against the leaves and barren branches. I didn't see the stars in the night sky until I printed this image.

Come sit down and buy some spirits at this Greenport small business. The wind blurred the branches during this almost 2 second exposure.

Preston's Marine Supplies

Preston's has achieved landmark status and needs to be included in any photography of Greenport. Here's how it looks after darkness. This image looks good on Glossy or Lustre paper. The green tinge is from Claudio's lights.

Historic Claudio's Restaurant

This Greenport restaurant is illuminated by several light sources and you can see how it affects the colors. Tricky white balancing act. Notice the couple having a late evening dinner. This image would look good on a variety of mediums but metallic could be magical.

Floyd Memorial Library

All sorts of lights lend colors and tones to this scene. I took this with a wide angle lens so you can see the distortion and elongated shadows. Again, don't forget the starry night sky.

Scrimshaw

There was still some light left in the sky (see the reflections in the second floor windows) when I grabbed this shot. The light was fading quickly and that red neon sign was giving me fits.

There's a lot to talk about with this photo. I love the play of lights in second floor windows but the light in the store windows was created by a handheld flashlight that I ran across the lower level during this 6 second exposure. (You can see the glare of the light just above the sign for nautical charts.) Seven attempts to get it right.

I took this shot from the diagonally opposite corner while there was little light left in the sky. The music was playing and I almost abandoned my camera and tripod to go have a drink and enjoy the music up close and personal. With a wireless remote, I could have been in the picture, too.

Greenport Harbor Sunset

This is why I live out here.

Summer Concerts: Mitchell Park

Music in the park in Greenport brings the community together every Monday during the summer. The blurring is caused by the long exposure of 1.3 seconds but I feel it captures the good times people enjoy here during the season. Note the lighted hula hoop twirling.

Chase Bank

Why take this photo? Well this building was erected in 1864. The bank is one of the last original brick structures and the only original of its period in this sector of Main Street. The hint for me is that old spruce tree. That tree is old, too.

Bronze statue of WW I soldier in combat is the star of this small triangular park at the cross road of First and Main.

Arcade

It's not the old Arcade but it still looks good at twilight.

Coronet Diner

The announcement that the Coronet was up for sale made taking this picture important for me. I like the reflection of the red neon sign on the crosswalk and how it tints the white building across the street and even the Rt. 25 sign.

Lucharitos

I wrestled with this one. (Sorry) So many light sources and there is always a vehicle parked out front. There was still some ambient light during la hora azul, so there was less contrast from the bright white light coming from the Lucharito's sign.

Mitchell Park Ice Skating.

It was freezing so I was happy that it only took 1.3 seconds to capture this shot. White LEDs illuminate the rink but look how the other lights have different colors. All of it is under a sapphire sky at 6:07 pm.

Townsend Manor Inn.

One of three buildings built around 1835. This was the residence of whaling Captain George Coggswell. All the different light sources don't make it easy for the photographer. A lot of post-processing here.

St Agnes RC Church

It would probably take me two hours to get rid of the wires with Photoshop, so instead, I'm saying that they symbolize the direct link to heaven for parishioners. You don't buy that? Well look how the sun is shining on the bell tower.

ST Agnes RC Church II

Same wires, but I got there later on another visit, and noticed that the light shining on the sign cast a giant shadow on the rectory. I like the lights coming through the church's stained glass windows, too.

First Baptist Church.

This was taken on a cold evening in March. The sun is over the horizon behind the camera but some pink remains in the clouds behind the church.

Greenport Methodist Church

You can still see the afterglow of day in the right side of the image. Note the green tinge on the white church's exterior created by the street lights

Every time I took a picture of this business over a couple of months the stuff for sale changed. This time I liked the echo of the blue sky in the beach chairs. I waited for cars to drive by on Rt 25 to light the scene. Because the cars were moving, the light raked the front of the store so that's why you don't see clearly defined shadows. This was fun. Note the starry sky.

Converted Church

This one time church was converted to a residence on Fifth Avenue and South Street. I love the red doors.

North Fork Auto Repair

This Main Street auto repair has been here for as long as I can remember. It has changed hands several times in my lifetime. The red jeep makes the photo for me.

Claudio's Clam Bar

The long 15-second exposure smoothed the water surface. This was around 8 pm in June.

Dinner on Front Street

It was freezing but people were enjoying a nice meal inside. I love the way the lights play off the bare branches. Definitely not Edward Hopper. Bartenders look like they could use some company.

Horses rest for the Winter

You can see the reflection of the ice-skating rink in glass of the carousel. Maybe spring is around the corner.

Harbor Front Hotel

Greenport is pretty much closed down for the season with only an occasional guest.

Greenport US Post Office

I like the way the light radiates in the sky above the post office.

Greenport Fire Dept. Standard Hose Co. #4

The story goes like this. There was a fire on the south side of the rail road tracks. A railroad train was in the station and all the track crossings were blocked. The house burned down. Greenport decided that they needed a fire station on both sides of the tracks and so they added this annex on Flint Street. Some one please fill in the blanks in the comment section. Thanks

Little Creek Oyster Farm and Market

AP White's Bait and Tackle shop opened in 1932. Now the landmark building is a hotspot for oyster cognoscenti. Greenport maritime culture has changed over the years and this is one of the examples of that change. The warm colors of the string of incandescent lights make this a pleasing print. You'll love it.
