I grew up in New York City so expansive landscapes always overwhelm me by their vastness. New Mexico is one of those places with enormous landscapes, interesting geology interspersed with evidence of human habitation. The Spanish Conquistadors had already settled the land here by the time the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock.
